feel good rest
A few nights ago I found myself sitting at my desk, tired but not ready to go to bed yet, thanks to a mix of revenge bedtime procrastination and anxiety about the latest variant. I moved restlessly between the comfy and worn armchair in the corner of my office and my desk chair, aimlessly scrolling apps on my phone and looking up articles to compare covid curve lines to those that we saw in March 2020.
You know how it goes.
I knew that it was definitely past midnight, but I couldn’t tell you if it was 12:30 am or 3:45 am when my eyes were finally heavy enough for me to put my phone down. Instead of getting up to go into my bedroom, I laid my head on my desk. My arms crossed to support my overwhelmed mind, and the minute my forehead and forearm connected, tears just fell out of my eyes. It wasn’t a sob, or even a true cry. It was almost a relieved response, one that said: “See how good it feels to rest?”
It does, especially these days.
We’re going into the home stretch before the holidays and this time of year always feels like a blur, and lately, it’s felt especially blurry. In the mix of it all, I hope you remember how good it feels to find some rest - I’m going to try real hard.
Happy Holidays, I’ll see you next Sunday.
