magic on sunday: 🎉 1 year of playlists together🎉
someone once described this newsletter as, “kind of like delilah the radio personality but not in a bad way.”
i think it was a compliment.
it makes a lot of sense that i started this playlist newsletter last year as summer was entering its final month - in the midst of a lot of change, i was anxious for fall and a bit of stability.
throughout the summer i’d find myself running around all weekend and often not settling into my apartment or thinking and reflecting on the upcoming week until 10pm on sunday night -- and by that hour, there wasn’t a lot of time for thinking or resting.
i’d been making a weekly playlist for at least 5 months prior, and figured that if i somehow turned it into something that other people would expect, i’d be held accountable for slowing down in a way that i couldn’t seem to do on my own.
so, here we are a year and 471 songs later.
boys i’ve met on tinder, strangers i’ve sat next to on airplanes, high school and college classmates, former colleagues, friends, friends of friends, and people from the internet i don’t even know, all somehow found themselves here.
this newsletter is my cherished part of the internet, my reason for finding new (and new to me) music, and probably best of all, a gateway to connection with those of you who’ve so graciously signed up. every week someone replies, and each time i’m surprised and thankful that so many of you have some sort of interest into what i sometimes seem to be word-vomiting into the ether.
year one of magic on sunday has been such a bast and a blessing - thank you for making that possible.
in addition to this week’s playlist, i’ve made a mega mix of every song that’s ever appeared here, and i launched a little website to house all these babies. i want to send a big shoutout to adrianne, my creative adviser for making a photoshop file and face timing with me to teach me how to use it so i could create custom covers for each playlist. and a big thank you to seamless and hbo go for powering me through the 6+ hours it took to make and upload them all.
here’s to you all, and year two.
