magic on sunday: call me a bird
a few clouds were moving in and out as i laid by the pool in miami on friday morning, and i was doing all that i could to infuse every drop of vitamin d before making the trek back to brooklyn.
my flight was in a few hours, i still haddn’t packed, and i was feeling anxious about jumping back into real life and the swirl of the holiday season. the holiday season has felt more and more like that for me as the years go by. as soon as november hits, i find myself resisting the clamor of it all, and praying for the arrival of january 1st.
as the wind picked up, a group of birds filled the blue sky above me with their wings stretched wide. i gazed upwards at them for a long time, and noticed how they just let the wind gracefully carry them. there was an occasional flap of the wing, but what struck me was their beautiful lack of resistance to their environment.
in the midst of a windy morning, they were literally just going with the flow.
so that’s my plan for holiday season - ride it out like a bird.
