magic on sunday: cheating
i walked into the gym today with the explicit purpose of walking right back out. see, my health insurance has this benefit where you get $200 for going to the gym 50 times between january and june.
it was only about a week and a half ago that i learned of this benefit and realized i had just enough days left before going on vacation to meet the requirement. i mentally scheduled the 5 remaining workouts and intended to get them all in.
but then the weekend came around and i needed two workouts. saturday’s went as planned, but when i woke up today, i could see the direction of my day shifting further from the 1pm yoga class i was hoping to make.
one thing led to another and i found myself on the b41 bus at 4:30pm heading straight to equinox and within ten minutes i was walking in, wearing jeans and sandals. i scanned in for my 49th visit, filled up my water bottle and walked out.
as a kind of a perfectionist, i don’t like or want to do anything half-assed. i like the idea of a perfect score on the first try. this is coming from a girl who got paid for her grades and lettered in academics, so this sort of mentality shouldn’t come as a surprise.
walking out of the gym, i had a laugh to myself about getting worked up about the situation.
the preceding 48 workouts were well-earned, as will be the 50th workout i have planned with my powerlifting coach on tuesday evening.
sometimes the fear of doing something perfectly creeps up and overshadows the possibility to accomplish anything, even imperfectly.
thankfully, remembering that at the last minute made me $200 richer this week.
