magic on sunday: free knicks tickets, or something like that
a few weeks before i moved to nyc back in 2010, i spent a saturday perusing the city with a broker and my best friend, in search of the perfect apartment. we made small talk walking between apartments and i asked him what he was doing later. “i’m going to a knicks game tonight.” he told me. “it’ll happen when you move here. you’ll randomly get free tickets to things.”
over the past almost eight years, i’ve found myself in places i’d never make it to on my own -- from random concerts to the baseball world series finals and little special moments in between.
last night i randomly ended up at a grammy party for mura masa, a 21 year old english artist nominated for two grammys. i recognized his music, but didn’t really know it. the same goes for the people i attended the event with - people i knew, but not in a let’s-hang-out-together-on-a-saturday-night capacity. but i love these sort of situations. those moments where you just kind of roll with it. and in doing so, i had one of the best nights i’ve had in awhile.
when i crawled into bed at 4am coming down from the high of the night’s energy, i reflected on how this was very much in line with my 2018 plan of “being out in the world” and how my willingness to actively choose that path brought me this experience that i couldn’t have dreamed up on my own.
i'm feeling compelled tonight to make note of this.
anyways, enjoy this week’s playlist, opening with a track from mura masa. i’m writing this before the grammys air, but i’m crossing my fingers for his first win.
