magic on sunday: going monthly
earlier this week i found myself sweltering in a thick cloud of humidity in midtown. i was rushing to a meeting, attempting to figure out where i was heading by following the blue dot in my google maps app, and dodging tourists outside of grand central.
i was a bit frazzled but the minute i walked through the door of the office building and into the life-giving air conditioning, i felt composed. as i walked a few more feet into the lobby, i suddenly understood where this feeling came from - this was the first office i ever worked in here in the city. after the meeting, i headed to the subway but stopped when something caught my eye. it was an upscale restaurant nestled on the corner. i stopped and whipped out my phone, waited for a few passersby to move out of frame and snapped a picture.
in may of 2010, the agency i would later work at housed in the building i had just departed, bought me a train ticket to come to the city from dc to interview for a gig. i was 24, wildly ambitious, and giddy at the prospect of working and living in new york city. when i arrived at the office, the hr director told me that “as long as nothing weird happens today” i’d have the job. i’d already had a phone conversation with the man who’d eventually be my boss, so i spent the morning meeting with a handful of folks, touring the agency, and ended my interview with a lunch at that upscale restaurant. i love this little flashback, if only for the reminder of how fearless and wide-eyed i was when i was just starting out.
recently i’ve been itchy with energy for new things, so i’ve been trying to hone and honor my past “beginner mentality.” i have a few projects in the works, including a completely new, different-ish newsletter and i’m rearranging a lot of things in my life to make space for some of these new ideas to flourish. all that to say, you can expect this magic on sunday newsletter still, but they’ll come once a month instead of once a week (which...is basically what the summer cadence has fallen into).
i’m excited to switch things up after two years (!!) of this project and couldn’t say thank you enough to the 100’s of you all following along.
