magic on sunday: hamster wheel
sunny, cold, and standing on the bridge over the gowanus canal. it’s there where my friend nina told me something so simple, but so pertinent.
i was walking to the grocery store and we were texting. while trying to describe something complex, i suggested a phone call.
it was sunny and bright on the bridge and i leaned against the railing, describing a situation i’d been mulling over without much clarity.
maybe you just let it be, she suggested. which, to a planner/doer/processer/feeler like me, was sort of a noteworthy thought. i hadn't even considered not taking action on the matter.
and now, i’ve been mulling over that idea all day - the fact that i could just choose to put a pin in it. i guess i don't really need a conclusion. not yet, at least.
but because i’m me, i spent some time reading up on the idea of not taking action, which led me to the taoist term “wu wei.” in 600 b.c., the taoist te ching wrote : “do that which consists in taking no action and order will prevail.”
i’m going to do my best to not mull over the idea of non-action now (because, see above: planner/doer/processer/feeler here), but i’m at ease already.
