magic on sunday: open ended
recently, i heard from people i thought i’d never hear from again. and i don’t even mean that in a dramatic way. our time together was short and i assumed that the direction of our paths were set and never meant to cross again. hearing from these people didn’t necessarily change my relationship with them, but it changed how i felt about said relationships.
in the same vein, i had a week where i spent 3 separate nights with people who've known me for more than half of my life (which, if you’re a military kid like me, it’s a rare occurrence), had a phone call with one of my good friends from high school and college, and dreamt about another friend from my past. “hey hey!” to molly, emma, sarah m, and lisa – all lovely magic on sunday subscribers.
when i was younger, i thought that my relationships with them would remain unchanged. as i grew older, i came to understand that these relationships where changing, but i didn’t really leave a lot of room for understanding how it could evolve into something better or different in a good way. my time recently with these friends showed me new opportunities for our relationships, ones i possibly almost wrote off.
i've shared two separate scenarios, but they’ve both revealed to me how my own expectations maybe got in the way of things unfolding to a better place.
if you take anything from what i’m trying to say, it’s to give yourself the freedom this week to relinquish control of being the architect of every part of your story. save some room for the things outside of your control to work their magic.
