magic on sunday: this is a reminder to pack my passport

i’m going to spain on friday which means my apartment is in a state of disaster.

it’s like this every time i go on a big trip. the clothes piled in my comfy reading chair are all contenders to be finalist in my suitcase, but the real winners likely won't be announced until the very last minute on thursday night. there’s a bundle of dirty laundry ready to be dropped off on my way to work tomorrow, and ironically, i just put a ton of clean laundry away that’s been occupying prime bedroom real estate for longer than i’d like to admit. my dishes are done, but there’s a mountain of clean ones ready to be put away.

this is just how it (annoyingly) works when i'm about to travel: never taking enough time to feel like everything is in order or that i’ve planned far enough in advance or that i’ve brushed up on the language (keeping my fingers crossed that high school spanish class finally pays off).

i do, however, know the temperature and have planned accordingly. i’ve read up on the local cuisine. i have a guide book of mallorca that i’ve been carrying around in my purse all week, and most of our accommodations are booked. oh, and I finally got a fanny pack.

but usually, that little gap between being wildly prepared and severely unprepared usually turns out to be my sweet spot. i like to think it leaves enough room for some unplanned magic to happen.

or, that’s what i’m telling myself going into this week.
