a little magic to slow down

Hey friend, thanks for making your way over to my cozy corner of the Internet.

I’m Meghan, a 30-something, multi-racial black momma (among many other things) living in Brooklyn. I grew up in a military family, which means I don’t have a hometown, and if you ask me where I’m from, I won’t have a straight answer for you. I’ve called in Brooklyn home for 15 years, which is the longest I’ve lived anywhere, so maybe that’s where I’m from?

Because I moved states or countries ever three years, I got good at keeping in touch, and largely using the Internet to do it. In middle school (we’re talking pre-Y2K) my friends and I had a group newsletter powered by our AOL email address. Though the Internet and social media is becoming harder and harder to tolerate these days, I’ve always found it comforting to make a place of my own to document observations, say what’s on my mind, and to create an archive of my life.

I started Magic on Sunday in 2016 because I needed a self imposed responsibility to take a breather at the end of the weekend before starting a new week. I was younger, single, and didn’t have many responsibilities other than working in Advertising, so I jammed my weekends full of non-stop social plans, solo activities, and honestly, avoiding downtime that would make me feel lonely.

This newsletter has given me the chance to hone my voice, appreciate my perspective, share so much good music, and more importantly, connect with others on the receiving end.

So, thanks again for being here. Each week(-ish), you can expect a newsletter with reflections on motherhood, identity, and a playlist of music I have on repeat. Consider it your Sunday speed bump to slow down before the week ahead.

Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and website. And feel free to follow me on Spotify, I’ve got 100+ Magic on Sunday playlists waiting for you here.
